Memorial services for Alec Darwin Blalock will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, November 22, 2025, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street, Camden. Reverend Scott Hodge will officiate. Alec, husband of Beverly Keziah Blalock, passed away on Friday, November 14, 2025. Born in Camden, he was the son of the late Joseph Davis Blalock and Elizabeth Ben-Mildred “Bennie” Sowell Blalock.
After graduating from Clemson University, Alec dedicated his life to public service and to the outdoors he loved so deeply. He began his career as the Parks and Recreation Director for Union County, SC, and went on to serve at various state parks across South Carolina. He later spent many years with the U.S. Post Office in Camden before retiring and opening Deep South Rivers Dive Charter Company, where he introduced countless people to the beauty of South Carolina’s waterways—especially his beloved Cooper River.
After stepping back from charter work, Alec founded Virgin Heart Sinker Cypress, recovering historic sinker logs from the bottoms of South Carolina’s rivers and swamps. He then opened The Swamp Log Artisans Gallery, showcasing furniture and unique artisan pieces crafted primarily from the underwater lumber he personally reclaimed. Alec loved the great outdoors, traveled often, and embraced adventure all the way to the very end. He can be remembered best by the stories he shared from life experiences, his ability to find humor in any situation and his sense of adventure.
In addition to his wife of 41 years, Alec is survived by his daughters, Elizabeth Duncan (Brett) of Jacksonville Beach, FL, and Kelly Crayne of East Augusta, Australia; his grandchildren, Bailey Hall (Shane), Alysia Medera, Joe Crayne, and Hunter Crayne; and a bonus grandson, Luke D. Giddings of Bishopville, SC. He is also survived by his brother, Joe Blalock (Rhonda) of Columbia, SC; his cherished nieces, Margaret Blalock and Rachael Gelardi; his nephew, Davis Blalock; and countless friends. Along with his parents, Alec was predeceased by his brother, Charles Blalock.
“If a man doesn’t explore what God has given him, can he really say he lived?” — Alec D. Blalock
