Barbara Miley

Barbara Lee Miley, 93, passed away peacefully on April 12, 2026, in Chapin, SC, surrounded by her loved ones. Born on February 28, 1933, in New York, she was adopted by Wilhelmenia Fuller Strobel and George Bernard Lee, Jr. of Walterboro, SC. Barbara lived a long, fulfilling life characterized by devotion to family and her remarkable resilience.

She was known for her sharp wit, exceptional skills in solving crossword puzzles, and was a masterful pianist. In 1975, Barbara bravely moved to Columbia, SC, with three children while attending the University of South Carolina, where she earned a Bachelor of Music Education in 1980.

Barbara found joy in participating in Faith-At-Work, Cursillo Weekend Retreats, and serving as a lay reader at Grace Episcopal Church in Camden.  Her favorite memories included spending time with family at Pawleys Island, SC.

She is survived by her four daughters: Jeanne (Edward) Melton, Babbie (Jeff) Jaco, Elizabeth (David) Basil, and Anna (Steven) Adelman. She leaves behind a cherished legacy of eight grandchildren and twelve great-grandchildren. Barbara was preceded in death by her husband, Gerald Emerson Miley, Jr., and her son, Gerald Emerson Miley III.  While Barbara was an only child, she considered close cousins her siblings, especially June Erwin, and best friend from the first grade, Sarah M. Schack.

The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to The Heritage at Lowman Lakeside Assisted Living and all the friends she made there for their compassion and care.

A graveside service will be held at Live Oak Cemetery in Walterboro on Saturday, April 25th at 1:00 PM. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials to Grace Episcopal Church in Camden, St Jude’s Church in Walterboro, Lutheran Hospice of Chapin, or a charity of one’s choice.
