Baylor Dee “Shorty” Gibson left this life on June 5, 2026. He was born in Charlotte on November 28, 1935. He worked at Celanese for 30+ years as an Engineer and holds 3 patents with the company. He was an avid sports fan and watched everything including racing, football, baseball, golf and especially college basketball. The Atlanta Braves were his most favorite baseball team and the Panthers and Commanders (which will always be the Redskins) were his football teams.
He could build or make just about anything. He designed one of the houses he and mother lived in and once custom painted a car for his daughter. He loved living at Lake Wateree where we had many summers of camping in his and mother’s yard. He loved dancing to beach music with mother (Nancy) who preceded him in death in 2023.
Baylor is survived by his sons, Ricky Gibson and Tony Braswell (Kim); daughter, Kimberly Graham; grandson, David Sexton (Abby); granddaughter, Jessica Sexton; 7 great grandchildren, and several “extended” family members. The family will have a private service later this month.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
