On April 11, 2024, Carolyn Ann Powers Sinclair, loving wife and mother of five children, ten grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren, passed away peacefully in Knoxville, Tennessee, at the age of 87, with members of her family at her side.
Carolyn (known as Carol by family and friends) was born on December 2, 1936, in Waynesville, North Carolina, to Vernon Eugene Powers and Nettie Cochrane Powers Lynch. She graduated from Newton-Conover High School in 1954, took several college classes in administration, and held several positions during her life, including financial administrator for a landscaping company in Sugarland, Texas. She also served on the Farragut, Tennessee Museum Committee for five years.
In 1957, she married John Carl Sinclair Jr., from Camden, South Carolina. They raised three sons, John Carl III, Joel Manning (Joe), James Richard (Rick), and a daughter, Jana Ann Sinclair Bagwell. Carol and John Jr. lived in eight different states as they followed his career path and made several life-long friends along their journey. John Jr. passed away in Sugarland, Texas in 2004 after 47 years of marriage.
Carol moved from Texas to Farragut, Tennessee in 2008 to be closer to family. She joined the First Baptist Concord Church in Farragut, where she was an active member of the Sunday School class and enjoyed helping with the Water Angels program. She was actively involved with her neighborhood association, serving as treasurer and then president. She enjoyed many hobbies, including reading, playing bridge & dominoes, sewing, quilting, canning, candy making, and jewelry making. She was an avid backyard birdwatcher with a personal focus on hummingbirds. She set up multiple birdfeeders, usually right outside her kitchen windows, and watched them daily. Hummingbird figurines featured prominently throughout her home.
In 2019, Carol left Tennessee for a few years, first living near Joe and Rick in Garner, NC, and then with Jana in Phoenix, AZ, before returning to Farragut as a resident of NHC in early 2022.
Carol was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Teresa Ann; husband, John Sinclair Jr.; father and mother, Eugene Powers and Nettie Cochrane Powers Lynch; sister Judy Powers Wilson, and brother Kenneth Eugene Powers; sisters-in-law, Dorothy Sinclair Richmond and Joann Benfield Powers; and brothers-in-law, Jerry Lane Sinclair, James Vernon Sinclair, and Nathaniel T.
