Cindy Sue Dieringer, born March 2, 1949, in Canton, Ohio, to Frank Melvin and Mary Ruth Dieringer, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of compassion, dedication, and community service.
Cindy spent her early years in Canton, Ohio, until 1964, when her family moved to Middleburg Heights. She graduated from Midpark High School and went on to achieve significant academic and professional milestones. Cindy is survived by her sister, Barbara Graham (Gerald), her nieces, Kelly Morris (Clay) and Heather Ratliff (Jim), and her nephew, Patrick Graham (Jennifer). She was a beloved grand-aunt to Morgan Engelhart-Wynn (Jesse), Collin Engelhart, Sam and Molly Ratliff, and Kyle and Benjamin Graham. Cindy was preceded in death by her parents, Frank and Ruth Dieringer.
Cindy pursued higher education with vigor, earning an undergraduate degree in Chemistry from Grove City College. She furthered her studies at West Virginia University, where she obtained an MS and a PhD in Pharmacology. Cindy's passion for research led her to the National Institutes of Health, but her desire to directly impact lives inspired her to attend medical school at the University of North Carolina.
Dr. Dieringer specialized in Emergency Medicine and practiced at Providence Hospital and Lexington Medical Center in Columbia before moving to Camden, South Carolina, in 1993. Known affectionately as Dr. D in Camden and at Kershaw County Medical Center, she served not only as an ER physician but also as the Director of Emergency Medical Services, overseeing EMS and Advanced Life Support Training for Kershaw County.
Cindy’s career was marked by her gentle, compassionate nature and sharp wit. She was dedicated to continuous learning and was a member of the American Association of Physician Specialists, Kershaw County Medical Society, and the South Carolina Medical Association until her retirement in 2011.
An avid tomboy, Cindy loved outdoor activities, from playing sports like softball and volleyball to gardening and woodworking. She found immense joy in caring for her parents and her beloved pets, Alfie, Sissy, Winnie, Willie, Mandy, Ellie, and her surviving dog, Ruby.
Cindy was deeply involved in the Camden community, actively participating in Bethesda Presbyterian Church since 1999. She contributed to the Health Cabinet, Bethesda Church Choir, Kershaw County Community Choir, and the Camden Community Band, and she was an honorary member of the Presbyterian Women since 2011. Cindy also volunteered at the Christian Community Ministry’s Food Pantry.
