Emily Montalvo Obituary

Emily Adamson Montalvo passed away February 16, 2024.  Emily was born February 27, 1931 in her childhood home in Morrow, Georgia.  She is preceded in death by her husband of 53 years, Eduardo Alberto Montalvo; her parents, Leonard and Frances Adamson; her sister, Laverne Bailey; and brothers, Colie, Joe, Hiram, and Grady Adamson.

Emily walked one mile to the Morrow Elementary School for seven years.  She graduated from Jonesboro High School in 1948.  Her class was the first to graduate on the football field.  The girls wore white evening dresses and carried a bouquet of red roses.  She is a 1952 graduate of Georgia Teacher’s College, Statesboro, GA (now Georgia Southern University).  Emily worked in the office of President Zach Henderson for two years.

During the summers and Christmas holidays of her college years, she worked for the F. W. Dodge Corp.  She taught at Avondale Estates High School.  Emily was employed by The Celotex Corp. for several years before enjoying staying home with the children.   

In 1960 she was awarded a certificate from the United States Power Squadrons in Boating and Small Boat Handling.  The family enjoyed boating, swimming, and water skiing at Lake Lanier. 

In 1970 she returned to Celotex as Assistant to the Manager of the Southeast Acoustical Division and the National Accounts Manager. She was President for two years of the Foxtrotters Dance Club in East Cobb County.  She and her husband enjoyed ballroom dancing with their friends and traveling to various venues across Georgia for dances.  

Emily is survived by her children, Celeste (Bunk) Spence, Edward (Cindy) Montalvo, and Maria Taylor.  Grandchildren, William (Alicia) Spence, Christopher (Gina) Spence, Carmen Montalvo, Olivia Taylor, and Christina Taylor.

She is a long time member of Wieuca Road Baptist Church, Atlanta, GA (now The Church at Wieuca).

Emily enjoyed keeping in touch with aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Burial will be at the Morrow Cemetery, Morrow, GA.  Graveside funeral services will be Wednesday, February 21, at 2:00pm for graveside visitation, and 2:30pm service.
