Ernest Clay Matthews

It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved brother, Ernest Clay Matthews, who left us on May 30, 2024.  He was 62 years old.  Ernie, as he was fondly called by friends and family, was born on August 28, 1961, to Jack and Betty Jo Matthews in Nashville, TN.

Loved and missed by his brothers, Jackie, Kelly, and his son, Ellis.  Ernie had a passion for race cars and the racetrack. He touched all who knew him and we are grateful he is now reunited with his brother, Rory, and their parents.  He was a proud marine and a generous friend.  Ernie’s kindness and loyalty will be missed.

A visitation will be held Saturday, June 8, 2024, from 3 – 5:00 PM at Kornegay Funeral Home, Lugoff-Elgin Chapel, 1139 Highway 1 South, Lugoff, SC.
