Funeral services for Evelyn Timmons Baker, 92, will be held on Saturday, October 7, 2023, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, with visitation at 10:00 AM and service at 11:00 AM. Burial to follow at Evergreen Memorial Park, 802 N. Guignard Drive, Sumter, SC. The Rev. David Brannen will officiate.
Evelyn Timmons Baker passed away on October 3, 2023. She was born in Sumter, the daughter of the late Hastings and Rebecca Tucker Timmons. Evelyn was an excellent cook and was admired for keeping a clean house while raising five children and working full-time. She enjoyed bird watching, gardening, and shopping for antiques, clothes, and jewelry. She also enjoyed her job as a Beauty Consultant with JC Penny and Belk, winning various awards over the years. She was blessed with the gift of gab and never met a stranger.
Evelyn is survived by her children; Ricky Baker (Debbie) of Pelion, SC, Linda Hart (Jack) of Clinton, NC, Brenda Melton (Jim) of Camden, SC, Becky Hedinger of Camden, SC and Larry Baker (Teresa) of Cassatt, SC. 9 grandchildren; Shawn Baker of Irmo, SC, John Pope of Clinton, NC, Kristy Tew (Johnny) of Wilmington, NC, Rebekah Brewington (Carlton) of Faison, NC, Jimmy Melton (Marnie) of Camden, SC, Julie Orren (David) of Camden, SC, Carl Hedinger (Christina) of Durham, NC, Eliza Pritchett (Blaine) of Athens, Georgia, and Will Baker (Alicia) of Cassatt, SC.; 20 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great-grandchild.
In addition to her parents, Evelyn was predeceased by 3 brothers, James Timmons, Wilbur Timmons, and Marvin Timmons.
The family would like to thank the staff at Karesh at Beechwood for loving and taking such great care of their mother.
