Frankie, widow of Robert “Mickey” Burns, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, April 29, 2026 after a 10-year battle with dementia. Born in Lancaster, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Earl Lane and Mary Lousie Blackmon Lane Ghent and stepfather, Odell Ghent.
In addition to her parents and husband, Frankie was predeceased by her sons, Mike Burns and Mitch Burns, and brothers, Joe Ned Lane and John Earl Lane.
Frankie is survived by her daughter, Bridget Combs (Gist), daughter-in-law Johna Burns (Mike), and son Matthew Burns (Raymond Russell); grandchildren, Samantha Burns, Elizabeth Moriarty (Jake), and Austin Burns, and great-granddaughter, Rhiannon Moriarty.
Frankie was an accomplished nurse for over 45 years, serving as head nurse of labor and delivery at Moncrief Army Hospital at Fort Jackson in Columbia, SC and as a much-loved RN at Camden Hospital in Camden, SC until her second retirement. Frankie was a member of Hermitage Baptist Church for over 70 years. She was a skilled bowler and an integral part of several competitive leagues. She was also a world-traveler in her later years. She enjoyed reading romance novels, jigsaw puzzles, word searches, and movies, particularly westerns.
Frankie was an incredible person and served as a strong matriarch for her family. She was a tough, empathetic, hilarious, and resilient woman who gave her love, time, energy, and resources helping others. Frankie was a role model Mom to her children and an incredible Granny to her grandchildren who all love her dearly. Frankie will be remembered for her hearty laughter, sage wisdom, and quick wit.
