Graveside services with military honors for Command Sergeant Major (Ret.) George Oscar Nord, 91, will be held at 11:00 AM on Thursday, May 7, 2026, at Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Reverend Roy Butler will officiate.
George passed away on Tuesday, April 28, 2026. Born in Clinton, IA, on October 27, 1934, he was the son of the late Emil Walford and Emma Frances Chandler Nord. A distinguished veteran, George served 30 years in the US Army, retiring as a Command Sergeant Major.
A graduate of the Command Sergeant Major Academy, his elite qualifications included Airborne Wings, Jumpmaster, Ranger Tab, and both the Expert and Combat Infantry Badges. His highly decorated career included the Silver Star with Valor, the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, and the Purple Heart.
In retirement, George was an avid hunter and fisherman. He was recently inducted into the Clinton High School Hall of Honor for his military service.
George was predeceased by his wife, Nancy Ellen Benson Nord, four siblings (Neal, Eric, Juanita, and Carol), and his parents. He is survived by his children: Ellen Boahn (Cliff), Lisa Lynn Nord McClain, and Todd Aaron Nord (Carolyn Rena); four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren (with another expected in October); and his siblings, Carl Nord and Ester Ness.
