Henry Scott Buchanan

Henry Scott Buchanan, known to all as “Scott” passed away on June 29, 2026, in Camden, SC at the age of 79. Scott was born on December 30, 1946, in Clarksville, TN to the late W. C. “Buck” Buchanan and Mary Elizabeth “Scottie” Scott Buchanan.

Scott spent his early years in Clarksville, TN and Monroe, LA playing outside with his older brother, the late Wendell “Bubba” Buchanan. One of their favorite pastimes was to catch lizards and use string to make harnesses for the lizards to pull small toy cars or match boxes filled with the treasures of little boys. He joined the Navy as soon as he was eligible and served his country in The Vietnam War.

Scott later went on to graduate from the Culinary Institute of America. He had an extensive career as an executive chef including stints at Litchfield Plantation in Litchfield, SC; The Palmetto Club in Columbia, SC; and Hounds Lake Country Club in Aiken, SC. While working at upscale restaurants and country clubs he got into ice carving and won several competitions for his creations. At one point he managed Greenfield Plantation in Georgetown, SC and served as the personal bodyguard of the plantation’s owner, Walker “Skipper” Inman, Jr., the nephew of Doris Duke, and often traveled out of state with him on various expeditions.

Later in life, Scott returned to school and graduated with a degree in printing from Midland’s Tech just because he found it to be an interesting subject. He retired as a subcontractor for the military.

An avid artist, he was always interested in learning about various forms of artistic expression and could often be found painting, working on scrimshaw, creating turquoise jewelry, or using random items from around the house to create mixed medium art pieces. He was also a lover of martial arts and held multiple blackbelts in various fighting styles. He even once owned his own Dojo in Georgetown, SC.

Scott also enjoyed hunting, fishing, and listening to music and creating his own. He played guitar, harmonica, keyboard, and tinkered with other instruments as well. He enjoyed creating gardenscapes featuring rock walls, water features, and sometimes installed his own art pieces as part of the aesthetic. One of his creations was featured on WIS TV’s “PM Magazine.” He traveled the world with his various professions and spent a few years living in Ireland – the place he often called his favorite of all the lands he’d seen.

In addition to his parents and brother, Scott was predeceased by his beloved cat, Tiger. He is survived by his daughters, English and Fawn Buchanan, both of Columbia, SC; his former wife and forever favorite Nurse Nightingale, Eleanor “Kandy” Davis Buchanan of Columbia, SC; his grandpup, Gypsie of Columbia, SC; and lifelong friends, Arnie Cribb Sr., and Arnie Cribb, Jr., both of Georgetown, SC.

A graveside service with full military honors will take place at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, July 7, 2026, at Forrest Lawn Memorial Park in Camden, SC. Kornegay Funeral Home is assisting the family.
