Memorial services for Lawrence Stephen “Larry” Shea, 86, will be held at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday, January 8, 2026, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel.
Larry, son of the late Joseph Michael Shea and Mary Siedler Shea, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 28, 2025. Born in Washington, D.C., he graduated with a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Maryland and enjoyed a long and successful career as an engineer with DuPont. During his tenure, Larry and his colleagues were awarded four patents for innovations in preparing yarns for dyeing and processing – a testament to his dedication and expertise. He particularly loved the testing aspect of his work.
Following his retirement, Larry pursued his passion for cooking by attending chef school at the University of South Carolina. He delighted in baking and was well known for sharing his homemade breads and treats with friends and family.
Larry was also deeply committed to community service. As a longtime member of the Camden Lions Club, he worked tirelessly to help individuals obtain eye exams and eyeglasses, organized fundraisers, and partnered with local opticians to ensure quality care for those in need.
He is survived by his children: Catherine S. Creticos (Kenneth) of Columbia; Peter M. Shea (Paula) of Athens, AL; John M. Shea of Gainesville, FL; and Eric A. Shea (Rachel) of San Leandro, CA. He also leaves behind eight beloved grandchildren—Kirsten, Nick, Cameron, Ryan, Tucker, Charlotte, Amelia, and Lucas—and three great-grandchildren: Savannah, Ashlynn, and Kelsey. Larry is also survived by his sister, Joann Zeigler of Darien, CT.
In addition to his parents, Larry was preceded in death by his wife, Agnes Johnson Shea, and his daughter-in-law, Jill Hennessy Shea.
