Lester Hodge Obituary

Lester Anthony “Bobo” Hodge passed away peacefully on May 13 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Services will be held at The River Church located at 2024 Haile Street (Wateree Baptist Church Family Life Center) in Camden on Saturday, May 15 at 5:00 PM. The family will receive friends following the service. In consideration of the recent pandemic, the family asks that you please be mindful to wear a mask and maintain a healthy distance.


Lester was born in Darlington County on November 17, 1953 to Helen Brown Parker and Billy Joe Hodge. He was raised by his grandparents, Butler and Liza Brown, in Patrick, SC and attended Chesterfield schools. He became a paramedic in 1992 and faithfully served Kershaw County for over 27 years. Before becoming a full-time EMT, Lester was a member of the Alligator Fire Department and McBee Rescue Squad.


He is survived by his wife of 28 years, Renda Ray Hodge; two daughters, Amy Hodge Rushing of Chesterfield and Arin Hill (Jason) of Camden; and two sons, Levi Sherman (Brandy) of Edgefield and Michael Hodge of Cassatt. He is also survived by his cherished grandchildren – granddaughters, Sarah and Jobeth Rushing, and grandsons, Ethan and Leland Sherman and Jackson Hill; sisters, Melissa Griggs (Joey), Michelle Hodge, Wendy Hodge (Marque Lintvedt), and Dee Dee Chisolm (Brett); brother, Joey Hodge (Kinsey); numerous nieces and nephews; sister-in-law, P.J. Brown of Clayton, NC; and stepmother, Linda Fay Hodge of Hartsville.


In addition to his parents and grandparents, he was predeceased by his sisters, Ruby Boone, Agnes Brown, Ellen Thomas, Elvia Pierce ad Patricia Ray, and brothers, Otis Ingram, Neil Brown, Wilson Brown, and Marion Brown.


The family wishes to thank Kershaw Health Hospice for their loving care, especially Michelle Clark, RN, Megan Quigley, MSW, Chaplain Andrew Weems, and Martha Horton, CNA.


In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials be made to a rescue squad or hospice of one’s choice.
