Memorial services to honor the life of Marcia Rose Brown will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery on Friday, August 29, 2025, at 12:00 PM. Full Military Honors will be rendered by the US Army. The service will be conducted by a Military Chaplain. Memorials may be made to the Kershaw County Humane Society, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC 29020.
Marcia died on Monday, August 18, 2025. She was born in Detroit, MI, on January 3, 1939, to the late Melville Joseph Wohlgemuth and Frances (Toepher) Wohlgemuth. Marcia was raised in Pittsburgh with her younger brother, Melville Wohlgemuth, Jr.
She served as a nurse in the US Navy for close to 8 years, then attended Nursing school at the University of Pittsburgh. She worked for several VA Hospitals in Pennsylvania where she was a floor nurse, infection control nurse then worked in nursing education. During this time, she rejoined the military by serving as a nurse in the US Army Reserves. She eventually retired from the VA and found her way to the South Carolina Army National Guard as a nurse and retired with a rank of Lt Colonel. During her time in the National Guard, she also participated in the air rifle team.
During her retirement, she learned golf and loved the game. She spent countless hours on the golf course with many of her friends which also included travel within and out of the US. She was known for her great organizing skills for trips and flawless matching outfits on the golf course.
Marcia is survived by her daughter, Lesa DePeal (Thomas), of Durham, NC.
