Marilyn Tsirigotis Obituary

Funeral services for Marilyn Kay Watts Tsirigotis will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, June 7, 2025, at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street, Camden. Reverend Tommy Sunderland will officiate. Visitation will be one hour prior to the funeral, from 10:00-11:00 AM. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, 1659 Kershaw Highway, Camden, SC. Following interment, family and friends will gather for a luncheon in the Fellowship Hall at First Baptist Church, Camden. Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020.

Marilyn ascended to the Kingdom of God on Wednesday, June 4, 2025, cherished daughter of Allen Follin Watts, Jr. and Lottie Cleo Smyrl Watts, both late of Camden, spouse of George Edward Tsirigotis from 1987 until his passing in 2020.

As the child of a career Air Force pilot, Marilyn was born in Enid, Oklahoma and lived in Falls Church, Virginia, Homestead, Florida, Rome, New York, and Camden, South Carolina.

Marilyn graduated from Camden High School in 1971. She graduated from the Baptist College of Charleston (now known as Charleston Southern University) with a Bachelor’s degree in Library Science in 1975. She obtained a Master’s degree in Library and Information Science from the University of South Carolina in 1996.

Marilyn worked at the Kershaw County Library in Camden from 1977 to 1996. She also served as librarian for the First Baptist Church of Camden. She worked for the Sumter County library from 1996 to 1999.  She was the Director of the Harvin Clarendon County Library in Manning from 1999 to 2011. As Director, Marilyn upgraded the manual card catalogue system with a computerized system. Under her directorship, Clarendon County acquired its own book mobile.

Marilyn served on the board of trustees for Clarendon County First Steps, an organization dedicated to early childhood development, from 1999 to 2011. She served as that body’s chairperson from 2007 to 2011. She served on the Pheonix Charter High School Board of Trustees. She was a member of the local club of Civitan International.  She was an active member of the South Carolina Library Association, serving as its President in 2004. For her dedication to Manning and Clarendon County, she received citations from Clarendon County Council, the South Carolina House of Representatives and the South Carolina State Senate.

Marilyn was known for her love for her nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews, her service to Kershaw County and Clarendon County, her devotion to her beloved George, and her devotion to God.

Surviving her are two brothers, Michael A. Watts (Mary), of Augusta, Georgia, and Patrick R. Watts (Judy), of Camden, South Carolina. Also surviving her are five nieces and nephews, Kelly W. Hitchcock (Christopher), of Augusta Georgia, Nancy W. McQuillen (Kevin), of Memphis, Tennessee, Robert M. Watts (Margaret), of Atlanta, Georgia, Sean P. Watts (Maya), of Coos Bay, Oregon, and Paul R. Watts (Kim), of Troy, New York. Also surviving her are numerous grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.

Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
