Marjorie Ehrenclou

Marjorie (Marge) Ehrenclou, widow of the late John Orvar Ehrenclou, died peacefully at her home in Columbia on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

She was born in England in1937 during WWII. During the “blitz” an incendiary bomb landed in her family’s back yard. Miraculously it didn’t explode, enabling Marge to live a full and adventurous life for which she was forever grateful.

Marge settled in Columbia, SC in 1968, having lived in several countries and several US states. She worked for The State newspaper (1968-1971) and was then employed as Executive Director of the Columbia Medical Society for thirty-three years (1971-2004) and consecutively for ten years as Director of the SC Psychiatric Association. She graduated from the University of South Carolina in 1982. Marge stayed active in volunteer work from the time she first arrived in Columbia. She became a US citizen in 1971, and she was proud to be an American.

Survivors include her daughters, Laurie and Carol David; stepchildren, Lynn Blagdon, John W. Ehrenclou (Cindy), James H. Ehrenclou (Martine), Dr. Jesse Ehrenclou (Jill), W. Hennen Ehrenclou, and William Ehrenclou (Susan); sister, Rosalind Caplan; nephew, Saul Caplan; niece, Laura Franks; as well as many step-grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Marge was predeceased by her sister, Hillary June.

A private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
