Mary Jeffers Goff Rose, age 87, of Camden, SC, died on November 15, 2023. She was a member of the Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church in Elgin, SC, her entire life. After a decline in health, she spent the past seven years in assisted living facilities in Lexington, SC, and The Colonial at Old Camden, in Camden, SC.
Mary was born in Blaney, SC (now Elgin) on October 30, 1936, to the late David and Lillian Moak Jeffers. She graduated from Blaney High School in 1954, an honor student, voted Most Popular, and winner of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) award. Her high school yearbook quote, “We need not be so concerned over how we die if we live honestly.”
As a dedicated wife, mother, and daughter, Mary always put her family first. She made sure those with disabilities received the best possible care. Every holiday was special and she decorated and prepared meals to welcome everyone and have them feel joy and happiness.
Out of high school, Mary worked as a seamstress and later in manufacturing at the Bendix Corporation and the FN Manufacturing Company. She loved and enjoyed her Church family. She was active in Sunday School (Keenagers), Ladies Auxiliary, ensuring flowers were sent to the sick and meals prepared and served to bereaved families when there was a death.
Mary was very independent, never wanting to burden anyone. She was quiet, but also a take-charge person, ready to help those in need. After two strokes, her doctor told her that she must go to an assisted living facility. Her reply to the doctor, “I just hope someone there needs my help.”
She is survived by her son, Eddie Harold Goff (Marie), of West Columbia; stepdaughters, JoAnn Kelly (Rodney), and Darlene Strickland; step-grandchildren of Elgin, brothers, Tommy Jeffers (Chris), of Effingham, Donnie Jeffers (Suzette), of Camden; sisters, Elaine Perry, of Elgin and Debbie Melton, of Camden.
In addition to her parents, Mary was preceded in death by her first husband, Eddie Hilburn Goff; second husband, Coley English Rose; brothers, Leo Jeffers, Davistean (Buddy) Jeffers, Rondal Jeffers, Larry Jeffers, David Jeffers, Jr., Leroy Jeffers, Philip Jeffers, and sister, Blondie Wilson.
A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, November 18, 2023, at the Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church Cemetery, Elgin, SC with the Reverend Timothy McIver officiating. The family will receive friends following the service in the Church Fellowship Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Highway Pentecostal Holiness Church, 2290 Heath Pond Road, Elgin, SC, 29045, or the charity of one’s choice.
