Mason Reese Mathis, Jr.

Graveside memorial services for Mason Reese Mathis, Jr. will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, June 23, 2026, at Quaker Cemetery.  Reverend Bobby James will officiate.  The family will receive friends on Monday, June 22, 2026, from 5-7:00 PM at Bethany Baptist Church, 1146 Manville St. Charles Road, Bishopville, SC 29010.  Casual attire is encouraged.

Reese passed away Thursday, June 18, 2026.  He was born in Bishopville, SC, the son of the late Mason Reese Mathis, Sr., and the late Elizabeth Gillis Mathis.  Reese was a 1966 graduate of Clemson University and a lifelong farmer.

Reese is survived by his wife of 53 years, Janie Hoffman Mathis; children, Mason Reese “Chip” Mathis, III (Kristie), of Charleston, Jacob Edward Mathis (Stacy), of Bishopville, Amanda Marie Mathis, of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren, Samuel Christian Mathis and Sawyer Reid Mathis and brother, David Mathis.

In addition to his parents, Reese was predeceased by his 2 sisters, Margaret Bray and Frances Von Harten.
