Michael Norwood Obituary

Michael Benjamin Norwood, husband of Tina Crenshaw Norwood and father of Joanna, Olivia, and Mary Norwood, died on Saturday, December 23, 2023. He was 53.

Born in Camden, he was the son of Dr. Mary Catherine Norwood of Camden and the late Benjamin Lucas Norwood, formerly of McBee.

A 1988 graduate of Camden High School, he earned a degree in Forest Resource Management from Clemson University in 1993 and began his forestry career at Burgin Lumber Co. in Cuthbert, Ga. In 1995, he returned home to Kershaw County to work for what was then Stone Container. In 1998, he decided to venture out on his own and started Plantation Forestry. He worked as a private forester in Kershaw and surrounding counties for 25 years.

Mike loved his family. He and Tina, his high school sweetheart, married in November of 1998 and moved to Lake Wateree. There he taught his children how to fish, water ski, and wakeboard. Mike loved his dogs. There were Katie, Buck, and Cosmo over the years. These three cruised hundreds of acres of timber with him. Mike never met a stranger and had a wide circle of friends. In recent years, Mike greatly enjoyed his daughter's varied talents. Joanna's piano playing, Olivia's ballet performances, and Mary's volleyball games.

He is also survived by his sister, Robyn Norwood (Mark Whicker); mother-in-law, Joann Crenshaw; sister-in-law Reba Crenshaw Taylor (Daryl); and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his father, he was predeceased by his brothers, Jeffrey Norwood and Daniel Norwood,  and also brother-in-law Cliff Crenshaw.

A graveside service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, December 31, 2023 at McBee Cemetery at Highway 151 and 2nd Street, McBee, SC 29101.  Visitation with family will be held after the service at McBee Cemetery.  Memorials may be made to North Central High School, 3000 Lockhart Road, Kershaw, SC 29067, or the Thiel-Meyer Animal Shelter, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC 29020.
