A private memorial service to celebrate the life of Nancy Tindall Halter, 79, of Ridgeway, will be held at Fort Jackson National Cemetery at a later date. Columbia, SC.
Nancy was reunited with the love of her life on Tuesday, February 2, 2021, following a brief illness. Born in Columbia, SC, she was the daughter of the late James Samuel and Marjorie Lesley Tindall. After graduating from Columbia School of Nursing, Nancy joined the United States Air Force where she served as a Registered Nurse. She ended her service with the military as a Captain when she and Vince welcomed their first daughter. Nancy lived life fully as a stay-at-home mother until her girls reached school-age and then went back into the workforce where she served as a Home Health Nurse and Aide Supervisor with DHEC. After her retirement from DHEC, she once again re-entered the workforce as an Aide Supervisor for Carolina Health Force until her final retirement five years ago.
Nancy’s love for God and for people was evident in everything that she did. She never met a stranger and was known to strike up a conversation with anyone within a 2-foot radius. She served the Sumter community in a myriad of ways for 23 years before moving to Lake Wateree in 2001. She was a member and past president of the Pilot Club, a Girl Scout Leader, faithful church and Sunday School member, as well as a leader with the AIDS Taskforce. She served as a Red Cross volunteer nurse and made two trips to California to assist following devastating wildfires. She was active in the Emmaus, Kairos, and Epiphany ministries. Ultimately, her love for God shined brightest in her role as a pastor’s wife.
Nancy was a member of Lyttleton Street Methodist Church; however, nearly two years ago she found her place on the second pew at St. John’s United Methodist Church in Lugoff where she proudly worshipped every Sunday with her youngest daughter who is the pastor.
Relationships with friends and family were of utmost importance to Nancy. She never missed an opportunity to tell you about her greatest accomplishments - her children and their spouses.
She is survived by her son, Michael Louis (Kathleen), of Ridgeway; daughters, Lisa Michelle Halter, of Lexington, Reverend Angela Halter Marshall (Lee), of Lugoff; brothers, Robert Tindall (Mary Jo), of Lexington, Dr. Donald Tindall (Judi), of Katy, TX, in addition to a host of loving cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Nancy was predeceased by her husband of 44 years, Pastor Vincent Francis Halter, Jr. (Ret. Col. USAF) and her son David Vincent Halter.
In addition to the private memorial service, a Celebration of Life will be held at a later date due to COVID restrictions and the family’s wishes for everyone remain as safe as possible during this time of pandemic.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross, 632 West DeKalb Street, Camden, SC 29020, Epworth Children’s Home, 2900 Millwood Avenue, Columbia, SC 29205 or Thiel-Myer Pet Adoption Center, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC 29020.
