Philip Carter Obituary

Philip Lawrence Carter, 77, passed away on December 28, 2024. Philip was the oldest child of Donald and Glen Carter, and is survived by Keith (Tonda) Carter of Greenville, SC, and Shelley (Earl) Stephens of Bishopville, SC.

Philip was born in Austin, TX on October 15, 1947, and moved with his parents in 1948 to Darlington, SC, where he attended the public schools, but Philip was proud of his Texas roots (the home of his father). Philip never married and was unable to pursue a career due to brain trauma at birth. His parents were determined that he would have a normal childhood to the extent possible. He demonstrated artistic talent, loved music, enjoyed reading, and wrote poems. He was also a natural athlete who set the school record in the 100-yard dash while in junior high school.
