Philip Jackson Obituary

Philip Wesley Jackson, 83, of Camden, passed away peacefully on Monday, March 24, 2025, at his cherished home, with his beloved wife of 59 years holding his hand. He was the son of the late Wesley Harris Jackson and Evelyn Hinson Jackson.  A memorial service will be held at 2:00 PM on Sunday, March 30, 2025 at Grace Episcopal Church, 1315 Lyttleton Street, Camden. Father Pickett Wall will officiate.  The family will receive friends in Richardson Hall after the service.

Phil was a true Camden boy, through and through. He graduated from Camden High School, where he was a three sport athlete. He then went on to Clemson University, where he earned his degree while serving his country in the National Guard. Phil worked in Finance throughout his career starting with Milliken and the City of Toccoa, before coming back home to Camden. He served his hometown with pride, as the first Finance Director for the City of Camden.

Phil could spend hours by the water, casting a line, and never met a stray animal he didn't want to take home, including a pet pigeon while a married student at Clemson. Much to the chagrin of his wife, but to the amusement of everyone else, their home was always full of animals, including at one time over eighteen cats and dogs.

He was a friend to everyone he met, whether it was at a ballgame, in the grocery line, or even at a hotel breakfast buffet. And Lord, how he loved his sports! He was especially proud of his children and grandchildren, and never missed a tennis match, baseball game, football game, soccer game, or lacrosse match. He was their biggest, and loudest, cheerleader. He had an unwavering love for Clemson.  He was a loyal IPTAY member for over 50 years, and was blessed to witness some truly special moments in person, like the Clemson-Ohio State game in '78 and the '81 National Championship. He was so proud that both of his children graduated from Clemson and all four of his grandchildren went to Clemson.

But more than anything, Phil was a devoted husband. For 59 years, he loved Pam Branham Jackson with all his heart, and she loved him right back.

He leaves behind his loving wife, Pam; his daughter, Rebecca (Brock) Dillard of Columbia; his son, Wes (Allison) Jackson of Columbia; his grandchildren, Maryevelyn Dillard, Reisey Dillard, Harris Jackson, and Heath Jackson; his special cousin, Dixie Hinson Smith; and his faithful four-legged companion Renfrow (yes, named after a Clemson football player). He also leaves behind a host of beloved cousins from the Jackson family and many life-long friends.

The family would like to thank everyone for their prayers and support during this time.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Kershaw County Humane Society, 128 Black River Road, Camden, SC, 29020, or to the Clemson University Foundation, PO Box 1889, Clemson, SC 29633-1889, so Phil’s love for animals and his beloved Tigers can live on.
