Richard Lee Jones

Richard Jones, 79, died on Sunday, June 16, 2024.  The son of the late Laurence and Marjorie Jones raised by his grandparents Fletcher and Twila.

Richard was a 31-year veteran of the Des Moines Police Department retiring as a sergeant in 2000. He served as a Machinist Mate in the US Navy during Vietnam; later serving in the Iowa Air National Guard.

Richard was an avid war history enthusiast, a novice numismatist, and a passionate genealogist.

Richard is survived by his sons: Bryan (Sara), Anthony, and Tyler, daughter-in-law Shawnnae, his grandchildren Grant, Keegan, and Maylene, sisters-in-laws Denise and Wadene, a niece and several nephews, and his beloved dog Sparky.

He is preceded in death by his mother, father, brothers Alan and Bill, and his son Kelly.

Memorials may be made to Tunnels to Towers Foundation and the Iowa Veteran’s Home.
