Robert “Bob” Avon Sutton, Jr., USMC Gunnery Sgt., retired, age 69, passed away peacefully surrounded by his wife, children, and grandchildren. Born on January 30, 1957, Bob was the son of Robert Avon Sutton and Elsie Sutton, who preceded him in death.
Bob proudly answered the call to serve his country in the USMC at age 17 and served for 20 years, retiring with the rank of Gunnery Sgt. Beyond the uniform, Bob was a devoted husband, a loving father, and proud Paw Paw.
He is survived by his wife, Bonnie Sutton; children, Melissa Robinson and husband, Cole of Ash, NC, Bobby Sutton of Winnabow, NC, Belinda McGinnis of New Bern, NC, Dustin Smith of Laurinburg, NC, and Abigail Jones of Bristol, VA; and 16 cherished grandchildren, Victoria, Savannah, Elijah, Conor, Fiona, Carter, Kalie, Brookelynn, Collin, Riley, Nate, Logan, Emery, Billie, Brody, and Rosey. Bob is also survived by a cousin, Cecil Brazzil and his wife, Angie, as well as many cousins, nieces, and nephews, and a wide Brotherhood of Marines.
A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, July 18, 2026 at Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, 1112 Fair Street, Camden. Bob will be laid to rest with full Military Honors, reflecting his lifelong dedication to the nation.
