Sara P. Jones

Funeral services for Sara Phillips Jones, 98, will be held at 12:30 PM on Friday, November 22, 2024, at First Baptist Church, 1201 Broad Street, Camden, SC 29020. Rev. Phil Bryson will officiate. The family will receive friends in the Fellowship Center following the service.  In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorials be made to the charity of your choice.

Sara passed away on November 13, 2024.  She was born on December 27, 1925, in Greenville County. Daughter of the late Douglas and Julia Phillips.  Sara was a graduate of Slater-Marieta High School, Greenville General School of Nursing, and five-year Bible Study Fellowship Course. Nursing was a lifelong ambition, and she enjoyed a challenging and rewarding career as a registered nurse for 62 years. Several of those years were spent as head nurse of the Greenville Maternity Shelter. She sang in a church choir for over 50 years and taught Sunday School for over 60 years.  She was an active member of the First Baptist Church in Camden.

Sara is survived by daughters, Deborah Marshall and her husband Tony, and Sheila Van Vlake; four grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild, and two more on the way and many nieces and nephews.

Other than her parents and her husband, Kenneth Jones, Sara was predeceased by sisters, Doris Jean Phillips, Margaret Bryson, and Betty Waldrop, and brothers, Charles and Pete Phillips.
