Born on July 30, 1927, in Charleston to William Sanders and Bessie Pate Lee, Bill passed away on February 14, 2025, at the age of 97.
Bill proudly served in the US Army during the Korean War. After retiring from DuPont, he enjoyed life back on the farm. An avid gardener, bird hunter, and naturalist, he enjoyed all things outdoors. While he was still an excellent shot, Bill traded his shotgun for binoculars in support of a backyard bird flock. Bill loved sharing stories with his family and friends while sitting on his back porch.
Bill was a member of Antioch Baptist Church, the Lucknow Masonic Lodge, Scottish Rite, Forty and Eight, and American Legion Post 17.
Preceded in death by his wife, Voncile, parents, brother, sisters, a nephew, and many friends, he often referred to himself as The Last Man Standing.
Bill “Daddy” “Papa” “Uncle Billy” will be missed by many. He is survived by daughter Patti Lutterloah (Alan), sons Sandy Lee (Carolyn) and Bobby Lee (Sherry), grandsons Dustin Richards (Kristy), Wade Richards (Sheri), and Robert Lee, 5 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren cherished nieces and nephews, and his towhees and chickadees.
The family would like to say a special “thank you” to Alice Watts. She was his caregiver and is much loved.
Kornegay Funeral Home, Camden Chapel, is in charge of arrangements.
